For everything there is a beginning, for every success there is a start. Pamuhat the ritual of beginning, it is a ceremonial ritual to give blessing before starting an event. A solemn ritual that was being held by the Datu’s of the Lumads. On March 15, 2019, a PAMUHAT was being held after the opening program of the 102nd Charter Celebration of Manolo Fortich. Datus from many Lumads of Mindanao has gathered in the Municipal plaza where the ritual will be held. Me and my co-bloggers had witness the formal and solemn ritual of Pamuhat.
The Pamuhat was held to give blessing of peace on the event of Manolo Fortich Charter Celebration. According to Datu Mapulong the ritual has two part; before and after the sacrifice of the animals. Before sacrificing the animals, the co-Datus of Datu Mapulong have gone to many important and sacred place of Manolo Fortich to pray before coming to the rendezvous point, we must offer 1 peso in joining the ritual. The ceremonial ritual has started after the gathering of all Datus. The Datus sit around the sacrificed animals and pray to their gods that by sacrificing the animals we may acquire peace and order in Manolo Fortich. The prayer last last for about 25 minutes before starting the sacrifice. The head of the Datus is the one who conduct the sacrificial ceremony, before killing the animals he prayed them to the gods. The first animals which were being sacrificed are chickens. Approximately 25-30 chickens were sacrificed as an offering to the gods for their blessing. Then followed by sacrificing the pig, before killing the pig the Datu showered with blood of the chicken then stabbed directly to the heart with a sharp knife.
The last part was the blessing of the place. The Datu pluck two feathers from the chicken then dip in the blood. The Datu then blessed the place by brushing the feather with the blood in certain spots, a special blessing was given to LAGA. The ceremony has ended with a Bae(a girl lumad) playing and an instrument to finish the ceremony. The Pamuhat is a very sacred ritual by ask the gods with blessing. While joining the ritual I can feel the solemnity and importance of the Pamuhat. The ceremonial is a really big part of the Charter Celebration and I’m honored that I’m the one of the witness of the Pamuhat ritual in the 102nd Charter Celebration of Manolo Fortich.
